The Merchantman was a small civilian Merchantman-type freighter in service during the late 23rd century.

In 2285, Klingon operative Valkris hired the Merchantman to carry classified Federation data regarding the Genesis Device to a Klingon Bird-of-Prey commanded by Kruge. After Kruge learned that Valkris had viewed the data, he ordered the Merchantman destroyed with all aboard.
